How would you treat yourself with a few extra hundred dollars this year?

  • Sneak in a weekend away to your favorite spot?
  • Buy a ticket to see your favorite team?
  • Take that culinary class that you always wanted?

Although there are many different ways to save money around the home, the way you do your laundry provides a lot of low hanging fruit that will get that piggy bank full in no time!

In the U.S. the average American household produces 2600lbs of laundry across 400 loads throughout the year [1], which costs around $1400.

That’s way too high, right?

Nope! If you consider what processes and accessories are involved throughout the overall laundry process it is easy to see how the costs stack up:

  • $86 for the water itself (22 cents per load) [1]
  • $144 to dry your clothes (36 cents per load) [2]
  • $272 to heat the water (68 cents per load) [1]
  • $400 on detergent (100 cents per load) [1]
  • $450 on laundry accessories e.g. bleach, dryer sheets, fabric softener (112.5 cents per load) [1]

This adds up to $3.38 per load, for a grand total of $1352 per year.

Whoa boy, there are definitely a few weekend getaways wrapped up in there!

And these costs don’t even include the electricity used when you’re ironing your clothes or if you want to get really technical the depreciation of your washing machine over its lifespan (24 cents per load in case you were curious! [3])

Obviously, there a few simple ways to save on the amount you spend on laundry:

  • Use a cold wash whenever possible (4 cents a load versus 68 cents using hot water [1])
  • Hang your clothes when the weather is nice (saves 36 cents per load [2])
  • Only run full loads

We at Airfold, think you can go one better!

We have just launched the Airfold Towel Bar on KickStarter which uses a radically, unique design to keep towels fresh for more than 1 week without using any energy.

Now you can afford to launder your towels much less often, with each load that Airfold saves you adding another $3 to the piggy bank so you can treat yourself to that Vanilla Latte or save towards that dream trip to Bali.

If you want to cut costs and save money for the things that matter then make a pledge to secure your Airfold Towel Bar today.

The Airfold Towel Bar opens up every surface of your towel to airflow, drying more than 40% faster and stopping bacteria growth.
